Former winner of the boots comp Aidan Ciccozzi has had his signed pair of star player Jason Horne-Francis boots displayed in his room “where no one can touch them” since winning.

Grandmother, Pauline Ciccozzi, who entered the competition for Aidan, said winning provided a great opportunity to express their love for Port Adelaide.

“When all his friends found out, they all wanted to see the boots,” she said.

“It’s also a little bit of motivation for him.”

Aidan plays club football for Payneham and school football at Rostrevor and hopes to play for AFL.

Both Aidan and his grandmother have tickets to Gather Round games and even have family from Darwin making the trip to South Australia to join in the festivities.

Gather Round will kick off in Adelaide from April 10-13.

Fans from across Australia with descend on fields across the state from Adelaide Oval to the Barossa to cheer on their beloved teams.

Last year’s event brought in more than $91m to the state’s economy — up 10 per cent from Adelaide’s inaugural Gather Round in 2023 — and that’s only expected to grow in 2025.

Nine games have already sold out with 100,000 tickets sold in the first four hours of going live.

As Gather Round continues to grow, the Adelaide Airport is preparing for an influx of 232,000 over the week of the sporting event.

More than 265,000 people attended a Gather Round match in 2024, with about 46,000 visitors to the state.

“This is only expected to grow due to the increasing popularity of the festival,” tourism minister Zoe Bettison said. Ms Bettison said most recent data revealed a “remarkable surge” in occupancy, with an average of 1201 more rooms booked per night of the footy festival.
