Triple M’s rebooted Sydney breakfast show shed 1.5 per cent market share in the latest radio survey, a result bound to worry bosses at Southern Cross Austereo (SCA).
The Beau Ryan and Aaron “Woodsy” Woods hosted show dropped to a 4.4 market share, well down from a previous 5.9 in Sydney.
The loss reflected Triple M’s decline across the week in all timeslots in Sydney in survey three of the year.
The station was down 1.5 on the previous survey.
Conversely SCA’s sister station 2DAY lifted at breakfast by 0.5.
The result has put some welcome wind in the sails of that program’s new-in-2025 hosts Jimmy Smith, Emma Chow and Nath Roye who achieved a 3.9 share (up from 3.4), a hopeful sign for the youthful trio.
2DAY finished up 0.2 overall with a 4.5 share – trailing Triple M’s 4.9 share by a margin of 0.4.
KIIS FM, the home of the Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show, again dropped market share in Sydney (-0.2) in the latest survey – a result that could confirm fears parent company ARN’s focus on capturing Melbourne may ultimately be at the expense of the duo’s home town.
It comes after KIIS shed 0.4 per cent of share in the previous survey.
KIIS finished third in Sydney in the latest radio survey, behind 2GB (up 0.8 to 13.6) and Smooth (up 0.6 to 12.4), with a 9.3 share overall.
Despite this concerning overall trend, Kyle & Jackie O show was again the number one FM radio breakfast show in Sydney with a share of 12.5 (up 0.2).
It was a vastly different story for the duo however in Melbourne with the Kyle & Jackie O show shedding the gains made in the previous survey, one artificially boosted by the $5 million Dawn Dig cash giveaway.
Australia’s highest paid radio stars finished down 0.7 in Melbourne with a 5.1 market share.
The result saw them drop a place from seventh back to eighth most popular radio show in the southern capital.
ABC Sydney continued its downward slide in Sydney with all four programs across the day losing audience and finishing the survey with a 6.2 share (down 0.1).
Craig Reucassel slipped at breakfast (-0.1 to an 8.2 share), Hamish Macdonald in mornings (-0.8 to 5.5), James Valentine in afternoons (-0.6 to 4.7) and Chris Bath (-1.2 to 5.3).
Only evenings host Renee Krosch lifted across the week, improving her share by 2.4 to 8.4.
2GB made gains on the ABC’s losses.
Breakfast host Ben Fordham was up 1.1 to 16.7, mornings host Mark Levy held onto his 15.5 share from previous survey, afternoon host Michael McLaren lifted to 10.6 (+ 0.6), while Clinton Maynard finished on 8.6 (+ 0.4).
In Melbourne the ABC rallied after recording a record-low result in the previous survey.
ABC Melbourne achieved a 6.2 share, up 1.9, the station’s breakfast duo of Bob Murphy and Sharnelle Vella lifting by an impressive 2.0 points to topple Kyle and Jackie O in the breakfast slot by 2.5 points with their 7.6 share.
