Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas says she ‘respects’ Meghan Markle amid Megxit crisis

Meghan Markle’s estranged father tried to contact her despite claims that he ‘never called’ after he missed the royal wedding, according to new court documents.

The complicated relationship between Meghan and her father

Meghan Markle’s estranged father did try to contact his daughter despite claims from her camp that he “never called” after he missed the royal wedding, according to documents filed with a UK court.

Details of the breakdown of Meghan’s relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, have been revealed in text messages provided as part of the Mail on Sunday’s legal defence to a lawsuit over the misuse of private information.

The Duchess of Sussex is suing the newspaper and its publisher for writing a story based on a letter she sent to her father in August 2018.

People magazine quoted “friends” as saying that her father did not try to contact her after the royal wedding in May 2018.

According to the court filing, text messages from Thomas Markle to Meghan show he did try to repair the damage after he humiliated her with the paparazzi pictures.

“I want to reach out to you or try to reach out to you one more time,” he wrote to Meghan on

November 25, 2018.

“You apparently have just written me off and now it’s telling me I guess for the rest of my

life?”

Thomas Markle had been looking forward to the wedding before the paparazzi pictures scandal broke.

“I look forward to trying on my shoes and see how we look thank you for getting it ready for me its probably past your bedtime so have a good night I love you Dad,” he wrote on May 10, 2018.

He then had a heart problem and pulled out of walking his daughter down the aisle, amid the fallout from the photographs.

According to Documents provided to the UK High Court, Prince Harry criticised him for talking to the press.

He later texted: “I’ve done nothing to hurt you, Meghan or anyone else I know nothing about 20 phone calls I’m sorry my heart attack is there any inconvenience for you.”

Meghan’s half sister Samantha told the BBC that Thomas would testify if the case went to court and he was required.

The Duchess of Sussex may also be required to give evidence; however, many cases involving the royals get settled out of court.

The Mail on Sunday’s lawyers have argued that Meghan was more worried about the article about her being unflattering than the alleged breach of privacy.

The papers lawyers claimed that if Meghan was concerned about her father’s welfare she would have kept him in her life.

“She would not have cut her father, a sick 75-year-old man, out of her life for the perceived

sin of speaking to the press about his daughter who had become a famous royal duchess,” according to the court documents.

Meghan has claimed that the Mail on Sunday edited the letter she wrote to her father to paint her in an unfavourable light.

HARRY’S EX SPEAKS OUT ON MEGHAN

Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas has revealed she “respects” Meghan, but has refused to say whether she feels sorry for her amid the “Megxit” drama.

The 30-year-old told the ES Magazine in London that she wouldn’t comment on that “because it would be a headline”.

“Also out of respect. It feels like a long time ago. When it comes up it feels strange because I’m in a different place,” she said.

Bonas, who is an actress, did open up about her frustration at “always” being asked about her former flame and that she feels “labelled” by her past association with the royal family.

“No one likes to be labelled,” Bonas told the publication.

“The hurdles for me are when I’m trying to do my work and people want to talk about him.

“I work very hard and love what I do but it is still something I have to contend with.”

Bonas, however, remains on good terms with Prince Harry, even attending his marriage to Meghan in 2018.
Chelsy Davy, another ex of the Duke of Sussex’s, also attended the wedding.

HARRY BREAKS SILENCE

Prince Harry broke his silence to reveal that the 2022 Invictus Games would be hosted in Germany on his and Meghan’s joint Instagram account.

Harry’s video on Sussex Royal today announced that the sporting event will be in Dusseldorf and he said how the event heals families.

He wrote: “Here we come Düsseldorf! The new home for the 2022 and sixth Invictus Games.

“Having previously been held in London, Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, and upcoming The Hague this year in May – Düsseldorf will welcome over 500 competitors as they showcase their talents, determination and camaraderie to the world!

“The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport event, created by The Duke of Sussex, in which wounded, injured or sick (WIS) armed services personnel and veterans show the world what they’re capable of in a series of adaptive sports, ranging from wheelchair basketball to indoor rowing.

Meantime, Prince William has shown signs of how the British monarchy will work through the crisis.

Prince William made his first appearance of the year with wife, Kate, as they visited a

number of community workshops – including one session aimed at strengthening bonds between grandparents and grandchildren.

The pair happily waved to crowds enthusiastically shouting greetings, as Prince William cheerfully dubbed one section the “noisy corner”.

The couple also met former world boxing champ Amir Khan.

Meanwhile, Meghan was spotted on a seaplane in Canada on Wednesday (Australian time).

She also appeared at the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre in Canada.

It came as sources close to Meghan, 38, deny she was locked out of Monday’s crisis meeting with the Queen.

Sources claimed the couple had deemed it “wasn’t necessary for the Duchess to join in”.

Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan want to divide their time between Canada and the UK but their security bill has become a sticking point.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was grilled on the point and he replied: “That is part of the reflection that needs to be had and there are discussions going on”.

“We’re not entirely sure what the final decisions will be, what the dispositions are and those are decisions for them,” he told Global News.

“I think most Canadians are very supportive of having royals be here but how that looks and what kind of costs are involved, there are still lots of discussions to have.”

The conference with the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry lasted less than two hours.

Tax problems look like the last hurdle in Prince Harry and Meghan’s plan, which has been a PR masterclass of forcing the issue.

However, there were also questions surrounding what surnames the couple would use.

Baby Archie has Mountbatten-Windsor as his surname in a polite nod to Prince Philip.

But after Prince Philip left Sandringham before the Queen was to meet Prince Harry it was not clear if that would stay.

Prince Charles has reportedly warned he was not made of money but he was unlikely to cut off his son.

Meanwhile Stormzy, a popular British rapper, has defended Meghan, who has been blamed for the crisis.

“I ain’t heard her say anything crazy, she just does her thing and they just hate her,” Stormzy told New York radio station Hot 97.

“Someone on Talk Radio the other day, he was like ‘she’s just one of those people that I just look at her and I think …’

“And I was like, na, she’s just black man, get the f*** out of here.

“If you told someone ‘write a list as to why you hate Meghan Markle’, the list is just rubbish.

“There’s nothing credible to it.”

There has been claims that Meghan was subject to racism in the British media.

British TV host Saira Khan posted on Instagram: “As a woman of colour who works in the media, over the years I have had to deal with my share of dealing with racism – from some viewers, on social media, and from decision makers.

“But I didn’t quit, run away and just drop my responsibilities.

“The best way to deal with people is to stick it out, show them your ability and surround yourself with people who love and support you and do the job to the best of your ability.”
