THE iconic North Hobart State Cinema has announced when it will reopen its doors to customers.
Reading Cinemas — the parent company of the State Cinema — on Saturday announced the North Hobart movie complex would reopen from Thursday, June 11 following its closure in March due to COVID-19.
Reading Cinemas Australia’s Managing Director Mark Douglas said the company’s other Devonport cinema would reopen on the same date.
He said the cinemas would follow strict hygiene protocols to ensure customer safety.
“This includes measures for a reduction in auditorium and foyer capacities and a staggered seating approach to ensure compliant physical distancing for all cinemagoers,” he said.
“A stringent cleaning program involving sanitising of all high touch point areas will also be introduced.”

Mr Douglas said staff were eager to welcome back patrons after the cinema’s lengthy closure.
“It has been a difficult few months for everyone and we look forward to providing a welcome distraction as Australia emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic” he said.
“We commend the national cabinet on their handling of the pandemic and look forward to working closely with them over the coming months.”
The State Government this week announced up to 40 people were allowed to attend cinema sittings as part of the Government’s Stage Two easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
