NEW Year’s Eve will be far from basic at this year’s Taste of Tasmania celebrations.
Aussie pop-rock band The Basics, featuring internationally acclaimed Wally “Gotye” De Backer on drums and vocals, will ring in the new year in style at the party at Hobart’s Princes Wharf No.1.
Headed by writer and vocalist Kris Schroeder and featuring Tim Heath and Grammy-award winner De Backer, the band starts at 11pm, will count down to midnight and perform their new single The Lucky Country.
“[We] always love coming down to Tassie and don’t get down there often enough,” Schroeder said.
“We will probably be able to enjoy ourselves a bit after the gig, but we quickly need to get back in performance mode and hit the road for the [Launceston] Basin concert the next day.”
Schroeder said it was no surprise De Backer struck success in 2011 with his single Somebody That I Used to Know, which topped the charts in 18 countries.
“I’ve loved the guy since we first started playing music together and his voice is one of those things that is able to cross boundaries,” he said.
“I’m not at all surprised at what he’s managed to do. He was in the right time, at the right place, with the right song and it all kicked off from there.”
The Basics will be joined by an array of entertainers on New Year’s Eve for the On the High Seas-themed party including singer Owen Campbell and DJ Grotesque.
Besides the traditional midnight fireworks, there will also be a family-friendly display at 9.30pm.
Waterfront table seating has already sold out, with the rest of the $80 seating selling fast.
General admission tickets at $55 a person and includes informal seating.
