THE teenager who was allegedly punched by MasterChef judge George Calombaris at the A-League grand final has spoken out, claiming he “couldn’t believe” what had happened.
The TV personality, whose company MAdE Establishment was last month found to have underpaid staff a total of $2.6 million, was taunted by members of the crowd about the pay bungle after the match.
A video shows the Channel 10 star angrily approaching one man in the crowd and shoving him before walking away.
Appearing on Channel Nine’s A Current Affair last night, the male — who wished to remain anonymous — revealed he plans to file a formal complaint with police over the “erratic and unnecessary” behaviour.
“I was just like everyone else, was yelling ‘pay your staff’, and I think the crowd was just getting on his nerves a bit,” the teenager said.
“He was yelling at me, ‘come on the field, come on the field’. I’m not an idiot, I’m not going to go on the field.
“He came over, because I didn’t come on the field. You can see on the video, I start to move back and then I just got hit in the stomach.
“I couldn’t believe it really.”
He added that he’d been surrounded by families in the stands at the time.
“You can kinda see in the video, it’s a bit blocked out, but he kinda goes out with an extended fist and punches me in the stomach,” he explained.
“There was a little kid right next to me, ladies either side of me. It was a group of families. It wasn’t like he’d gone down to the active supporting area and picked a fight with a hardcore supporting fan.”
The teenager now plans to take further action.
“He should suffer the same fate as everyone else,” the teen said.
“He’s a celebrity, he’s a role model, he shouldn’t be doing it. He’s been given a media pass to be on the field and he’s abused that privilege, that’s for sure.”
It follows claims made by the chef that he’d been provoked after hearing his family being insulted.
“I have spoken to Melbourne Victory FC and Football Federation Australia today to report the situation and I’m truly sorry that this has happened,” he said in a statement released by Channel Ten yesterday.
“I was genuinely shocked when post-match football banter turned into personal abuse about my family.”
“While I am not proud of my reaction to the situation, I was offended by a spectator yelling out abusive and derogatory comments about my family.”
