WHEN Brandon Rogers auditioned for the 2017 season of America’s Got Talent, there was no denying he had one of the most beautiful voices the show had ever seen.
His version of Stevie Wonder’s Ribbon in the Sky earned him four easy “yes” votes from the judges with the notoriously fussy Simon Cowell even admitting the 29-year-old was “one of the best singers we’ve had in the competition so far” and giving him an extremely rare standing ovation.
“There is something so special about your voice,” said fellow judge Heidi Klum.
But tragically, not long after Brandon graced the world his voice, he passed away in a car accident on June 11.
At the request of Brandon’s family, the show has since shared his touching performance of the Stevie Wonder hit on YouTube and the video will leave you bawling.
Brandon, a family medicine doctor, spoke about his career and how music helped him get through difficult times.
“My inspiration for coming a doctor was kind of born out of a pretty tough experience when I was about six years old. I came home from school one day and I found my mum lying in a pool of blood. We rushed her to the hospital and the doctors were like heroes. They saved her life and it made me want to be the doctor that I am today,” he tells the camera.
“I feel like I’m in a field where I’m making a difference and there can be really tough days too. My way to cope with the stress has always been music,” he added.
The lyrics of Ribbon in the Sky also now hold a heartbreaking meaning after Brandon’s sudden death.
“But what is that was always meant / Is our ribbon in the sky for our love, love / We can’t lose with God on our side / We’ll find strength in each tear we cry,” he sings.
Before walking on stage, Brandon can’t quite believe he’s made it to the TV auditions.
“I can’t even believe I’m here right now,” he nervously says to the camera.
After his incredible audition, the 29-year-old singer quickly calls his parents to let them know he made it through.
“I have some good news, I made it, I made it,” he says as his mum screams through the speaker.
“I love you,” she tells him.
