Olympic champion swimmer Geoff Huegill called time on his SAS Australia experience as the rigorous selection course took its toll.

All the recruits are showing signs of wear and tear as the Channel 7 reality show – which puts celebrities through trials to be selected in the elite forces – entering its last days.

Monday night’s episode opened with Huegill – who had previously opened up about his shame over the breakdown of his marriage after he and his ex-wife were charged with cocaine possession in 2014 – snoring on his basic camp bed in the recruits’ quarters.

“I certainly know my body doesn’t recover today as it did 10 years ago or as it did when I was a professional athlete in my 20s,” the 42-year-old said in a piece to camera.

Woken up by his fellow celebs, he joined the other seven recruits headed to the freezing ocean to be put through their paces.

After a series of punishing challenges, Huegill lagged far behind the crew.

“I’ve got to be realistic, I’m not a 25-year-old athlete anymore,” he said to Chief Instructor Ant Middleton as he handed in his number. “I’m just spent.”

Huegill broke down again, unable to speak as he FaceTimed his partner Roxan Toll.

“You’ve done so well,” she said. “Everyone is so proud of you. It’s incredible. How do you feel?”

Huegill said he was tired and exhausted.

“I’m not at the same level of fitness as everyone else,” he said.

“I just kept falling back and feeling tired and not recovering. It was relentless and awesome.”

Huegill said he had achieved more than he wanted to achieve on the show,

It wasn’t quite the last viewers saw of him. In a slight editing fail, after he had walked out of the gates, Huegill did appear a few times watching on as his fellow recruits tearily shared their biggest shame.
