You’ve probably seen Hamish Blake and Andy Lee in a series of advertisements popping up on TV promoting the innovative new TV technology, Hubbl. You know, the one where Hamish dresses up like a set-top box?

The product promises to make streaming easier, and through a series of ads the funny duo show viewers just how easy it is to use the product designed to combine your streaming subscriptions onto one interface.

Hamish vouches for the product so much that he was willing to wear a set-top box in the commercials.

“Well, I mean obviously there’s a huge discussion as to whether to put Hamish in the Hubbl box or me in the Hubbl box,” Andy tells news.com.au. “Obviously, I’m more in touch with the common man. I represent Australian business, so obviously we said, ‘Andy, you be that and I’ll put the idiot in the box.’”

Hamish begs to differ.

“No, I think it was probably more along the lines of like, ‘Look, we have a borderline professional model here. Let’s put him in the box and just watch him do his magic,’” Hamish tells us. “It’s a hot piece of technology. So you put the hot guy in the box.”

The irony is that Hubbl is meant to create a smooth experience for the user. But Hamish says being in the box was far from smooth sailing.

“It’s the exact opposite of the user experience. I like to say I found the box clunky and awkward, whereas in real life the technology is smooth and seamless,” he points out

In the ad, Hamish dances to the Hubbl theme song Party Rock Anthem – moves that would make its singer Redfoo proud.

“I adapted them to myself and then some,” Hamish says of taking on Redfoo’s signature dance moves. “I think Redfoo now would look at me and go, ‘Damn it.’ He’s too late. I should have got a box for him.”

Fun and jokes aside, the device promises to transforms the way Australians stream content –and the duo are all for it.

“Well, I mean everything’s on there. It fuses everything free-to-air as well, which a lot of the other streamers aren’t doing, devices aren’t doing. So essentially you’ve got it all in. It is a time saver. It’s a cost saver, it’s a lifesaver,” says Andy of the device, which houses the best local and global entertainment apps, sports, video on demand (VOD), live channels and internet into one interface.

“It’s hard to find shows and you’re wondering which app you are watching it in,” he adds. “This way, whatever you’re watching will come up on the singular platform, singular screen.”

The pair made their debut as Hubbl ambassadors at a star-studded event held on the iconic Fleet Steps on Mrs Macquaries Point at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney last month.

“Huge honour to get out there. I actually think I have the current Australian record for most times in that [Hubbl] outfit and I intend to keep the record,” said Hamish, who dressed up as the set-top box at the event.

“I don’t have the outfit at home, but I’ve made a rule that no one else is allowed to wear it.”

Andy likened the event to a mini Logies with all the various people from the industry all in one venue.

“It was pretty spectacular. I mean, the backdrop, Sydney, was just putting on a show that night and it was beautiful,” he says. “It was great to have everyone there that night. There was tonnes and tonnes of people there from different platforms.

“It was kind of a mini Logies and I think that’s kind of what Hubbl has done, which is a pretty lofty goal, but I think it’s done well to pull everything together in one place.”

Hubbl will be available at Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi stores nationwide. Hubbl Glass will be available exclusively at Harvey Norman. On-sale date for Hubbl will be announced soon.
