Robert Irwin’s dance partner Witney Carson is under fire after a “shady” text exchange with her husband leading up to the grand final is leaked.
Drama is brewing less than a week after Robert Irwin took out the win on Dancing with the Stars, with his dancer partner, Witney Carson, now under fire for a “shady” text message exchange where she appears to be dissing another contestant.
In a social media post, which has since been deleted, Robert’s partner pokes fun at fellow grand finalist, Dylan Efron, for calling upon his star brother Zac Efron for support in the audience at their semi-final show.
The post shows a text between pro-dancer Witney, 32, and her hubby Carson McAllister, which reads:
Carson: “Zac Efron is here”
Witney: “I saw! They are trying to get votes.”
Despite the post mysteriously disappearing on Instagram, eagle-eyed fans were quick to take a grab of the cheeky exchange and share it on Reddit, with many claiming it was “snarky”, “shady”, and displayed “mean girls” behaviour.
“I love Witney but that’s a littleeeee crazy,” one fan wrote.
“Posting it is the weird thing,” another claimed.
And another fan chimed in with: “You text those things to your hubby to get it out … you don’t then post said texts to your social media page.”
Reality TV fans couldn’t help but point out that Witney poking fun at Dylan using his brother’s star power for votes was a little hypocritical, given Robert’s repeated mentions of his late father Steve and featuring his mum Terri and big sister Bindi in two dances throughout the series.
“Shoot production uses Steve Irwin every time his children are on that show, so why can’t Zac Efron’s brother use him?” one person questioned.
“I think it’s snarky only bc they did the same thing all season with Robert’s entire family. So she is delulu if she doesn’t think other ppl will do the same,” another agreed.
And another critic echoed: “I thought this was interesting after she and Robert referenced Steve Irwin all season.”
Meanwhile, others didn’t blame Witney for her remark, with some claiming everyone does what they need to do to win a competition. And if that means calling upon your family to help win votes, so be it.
“I mean, she’s not wrong. They’re all trying to get votes. It’s a competition!” one person insisted.
“To be fair, I’d use my famous brother too if it meant I could win,” claimed another.
“Every celeb contestant will use any connection they can to get votes, and like it was an unspoken thing that they were holding out on Zac being there to drum up suspense for when he’d finally show,” another theorised.
Love beween Robert and Dylan, who finished on DWTS in fourth place alongside his partner Daniella Karagach is not lost, however.
Shortly after Robert’s win, Dylan took to social media to congratulate our Wildlife Warrior on his win.
“This experience was made better with you alongside, can’t wait to hang out in the wild,” he shared, along with some behind-the-scenes snaps.
“Dude you are the best. I’m so happy I got to be on this season with you. Catch you soon mate,” Robert replied.
