It’s a sad day on Sydney’s sunny Bondi Beach today with a friendly and familiar face officially taking a step back from the sand and surf.

Bondi Rescue star, Harrison Reid, has confirmed he will be taking a step back from the Channel 10 reality TV show and the beach it is filmed on, after living his “dream” on our small screens for 12 long years.

“With today being the first day of summer not putting on the blue shirt, it feels real that I’ve officially stepped away from my role as a Bondi lifeguard,” the 31-year-old shared on Instagram.

“Not many people get to say they landed their dream job at 18 and lived it for 12 years. Turning up to work each day with your best mates, never knowing what the day would throw at you, who would knock on the tower door, when the emergency phone would ring, or who would end up in a rip and need help. I watched my mates do incredible things and save countless lives. It was a privilege and an honour to wear the blue shirt a young me once dreamed about.”

A loveable larrikin, Reid won over Bondi Rescue viewers the moment he joined the program during their 10th season in 2014.

His popularity on the show also led him to join a list of celebrities in the South African jungle on this year’s season of I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

In his post, which included a series of snaps from his time as a famous lifeguard, Reid took a special moment to note the best part of his job.

“I’ve seen thousands of stunning Bondi sunrises and sunsets, witnessed the best in humanity, and also the horrific and confronting situations only frontline personnel truly understand,” he said.

“A special thank you to the paramedics, police, volunteers, and the Bondi locals I’ve come to know and work alongside over the years. And to my parents, thank you for letting me chase my dream from day one,” he said, before moving on to thank his peers.

“Finally, to all the lifeguards I worked with past and present.. thank you. It was the best chapter of my life. The busy days, the trips away, and the after-work debriefs at The Bucket List and the hangovers. I’m lucky to have made friends for life, and I know Bondi is in safe hands.”

Bondi Rescue halted filming last year in its 18th season, with negotiations for a new series rumoured to be underway.

While many of the familiar faces from the show can still be seen working on Bondi Beach, Reid will only be making a cameo appearance - as a visitor - on the blue beach buggy.
