Tasmanian film Under the Cover of Cloud selected for global release by streaming giant Amazon Prime

A UNIQUE self-funded Tasmanian film has been selected for global release by streaming giant Amazon Prime.

Under the Cover of Cloud, by Hobart filmmaker Ted Wilson, will now have the potential to reach a worldwide audience, also being distributed in Europe and the UK by Alchimie, through Asia with iFlix, and through North American by DMR.

Premiering at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2018, Under the Cover of Cloud was written and directed by Wilson, who also plays a version of himself in the lead role, as an out-of-work writer who takes a break from living in Melbourne and returns to Hobart to visit his family.

While in Hobart, he decides to write a book about Tasmanian cricketers, and makes it his mission to interview legendary batsman David Boon.

Along the way, his literary mission becomes secondary to his rediscovery of family and the simple life.

Wilson financed the $80,000 film entirely out of his own pocket, and it is currently streaming in Australia on SBS On Demand.

And he is fiercely proud of the film’s independence, having attracted no government funding.

“We are all very proud of this film and what it has achieved, and particularly excited that it is now going global,” Wilson said.

“I am not at all surprised that Under the Cover of Cloud has been so successful. That’s what happens when you leave art to the artists.”
