Actress speaks out about Hollywood pressure to be ‘woke and left-leaning’

Iconic ’90s actress Neve Campbell has been spotted enjoying the sun in Italy ahead of her return to the Scream franchise.

Campbell, best known for starring as Sidney Prescott in the iconic horror series, was seen swimming in the warm waters of Capri on Tuesday afternoon.

When she’d had enough of taking a dip, Campbell, dressed in a black one-piece swimsuit, chose to relax on the bow of the yacht.

The Hollywood star was smiling and laughing as she clutched a wine glass and enjoyed time with friends in the sunshine.

The actress, 50, announced in March that she’ll be returning to the franchise in the forthcoming, Scream 7, directed by Kevin Williamson.

Campbell had notably appeared in all of the film’s sequels except for the 2023 entry, after she publicly revealed she had not been offered a “fair” salary to take part.

“Those movies have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it,” she told People.

“I was really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think that means a lot to women and to society. I’m grateful to be able to step in into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story.

“When they first approached me (for Scream 7), I thought, ‘I don’t know what respectful looks like to them. We might be in very different places.’ But they started out in a strong place, so that was lovely.”

Campbell added at the time that it felt “nice” to have “been listened to and to have made a difference in that way,” noting that she hoped other actors “get that opportunity too”.

Her role in the film emerged after franchise star Melissa Barrera was fired by Spyglass, the film’s producer. The production company had deemed her social media messages about the Israel-Hamas war as anti-Semitic after she shared a post that accused Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing”.

Barrera later issued a statement on Instagram stories, saying: “First and foremost I condemn anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people.

“As a Latina, a proud Mexicana, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.

“Every person on this earth … deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom. I believe a group of people are NOT their leadership, and that no governing body should be above criticism.”

She added: “I pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful coexistence. I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom. Silence is not an option for me.”
