Ross Mathews spills on his experience with ‘rude’ Friends stars

A former red carpet reporter has detailed in his new book what happened when he tried to speak to two ‘rude’ stars from Friends.

Friends vs Seinfeld: which one was better?

US TV personality Ross Mathews has said two members of the Friends cast were less than friendly to him.

Mathews, who first found fame as “Ross the Intern” on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, has written a new book about his experiences with Hollywood celebrities, Name Drop.

In it, he has detailed covering the red carpet for a 2002 party celebrating The Tonight Show’s 75th birthday.

Some of the Friends cast were there and as Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry approached him, Mathews wrote he squealed, “It is so good to meet you! I’m Ross!”

LeBlanc quickly replied, “No you’re not, he’s over there,” motioning to his Friends co-star David Schwimmer, who played the character Ross on the show.

“‘Oh yeah, the other Ross,’ I replied, jokingly rolling my eyes,” Mathews, who is now a RuPaul Drag Race judge wrote. “That didn’t go over well. Immediately the mood changed. Matthew Perry began staring into the camera blankly as Matt LeBlanc asked, ‘How did you get this gig?’”

Mathews nervously answered, “I slept my way to the top” while Perry continued to deadpan towards the camera.

“Matt LeBlanc pointed to me, then looked into the camera, and said, ‘Jay, are you kidding? Are you kidding, Jay?’” Mathews recalls. “Matthew Perry joined in, addressing the camera and asking, ‘What’s the call here, Jay?’”

Fifteen years later, Mathews was on the red carpet covering the SAG Awards for E! when LeBlanc, 52, approached him and said, “I don’t know if you even remember this, but years ago you interviewed me on a red carpet and I was really rude to you. It’s bugged me ever since and I’ve always wanted to apologise to you. It wasn’t cool of me to do that to you. I’m sorry.’”

Mathews appreciated the star’s gracious apology but cheekily notes that Perry, 50, has yet to apologise.
