Revival gig highlights Hobart’s independent musicians
A hardworking Tassie student has missed the opportunity to see regular crowds at her weekly Salamanca Market gig and around Hobart’s venues — but that’s set to change tonight.
OLIVIA has been studying hard through her final semester at uni, now she’s ready to return to the stage in a gig showcasing Hobart’s independent artists.
Performing as simply “Olivia”, Ms Wilson has missed the opportunity to see regular crowds at her weekly Salamanca Market gig and around Hobart’s venues.
“It’s been a bit sad, but it’s firing back up again,” the 21-year-old said.
She will perform alongside Tuli Morris, Canaan and Ruby Austin-Lund at “Revival”, a night presented by Melbourne-based grassroots booking agency Amber Mic as part of their Australian and New Zealand tour promoting independent artists while their home state was in lockdown.
Ms Wilson said performing once again felt “novel” after the long downtime.
“It’s really exciting to play alongside other local artists,” she said.
“I haven’t had that many opportunities to have gigs that are primarily supporting locals.”
The guitarist and singer’s reflective, stripped back catalogue includes her songs Soap, Probably Not and Oh Darling from her album Look At All This.
Ms Wilson said now her science degree is winding up, she will have ample time to “diversify” her sound and record new music in the near future.
“I’m looking forward to taking [music] on to a greater extent and getting out there a bit more,” she said.
Revival will run 7-10.30pm Friday at Altar, 112 Murray St Hobart.
Presale tickets are $10 via OzTix or $15 on the door.
