A popular radio star has explained why she chose to leave Marty Sheargold’s Triple M show last year.
Loren Barry shocked fans in November when she announced on social media that she was no longer a part of the national afternoon program, a show she had been a part of since it began in 2021.
“All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately my time on The Marty Sheargold Show has done just that,” Barry wrote on Instagram at the time.
The sudden announcement raised eyebrows, with listeners surprised that Barry never returned to the show to address her departure on air.

In an interview with news.com.au, Barry opened up about her decision to leave, and spoke about her new gig as co-host of The Hot Hits which will air around the country on the Hit Network from 7-10pm Mondays to Thursdays
Let’s start with your time on The Marty Sheargold Show. Why did that come to an end?
I always knew that eventually I would want to take up a radio opportunity that would challenge me more and allow me to gain more skills in that landscape. I kind of felt, time is a ticking and I’m not getting any younger (laughs), so I felt like if it wasn’t now, when would it be? It was really hard to step away from the team … but I just knew it was the right time.
Have you had any contact with Marty since you left?
Look, Marty and I have been friends and colleagues for nine years. It’s a long time to work with anyone. He’s taught me everything I know about radio and has given me so many opportunities and for that I’ll always be grateful. The end of the year is always a really hectic time and I haven’t had a chance to chat with him yet. I don’t send Christmas cards but if I did he would be top of the list.
Let’s talk about your new show, The Hot Hits, which starts on the Hit Network today (January 13). You’re co-hosting alongside the incredibly talented Nic Kelly. You must be bloody thrilled?
It’s literally what dreams are made of. I used to sit up in bed at night in my room and listen to Kyle and Jackie O (on The Hot 30) back in the day. I think that’s what kind of started my love for radio. So when this came up, I was in shock!
What can we expect to hear on the show each night from 7-10pm?
It’s going to be very music focused. We’re going to put a big emphasis on current hits and upcoming songs. I want to keep a really open line of communication with the listeners which is something that Marty always taught me. We want it to feel like friends in a room having a chat. And we’ll be trying to get the biggest stars (on air). My goal is to meet Harry Styles!
You’ve obviously met a bunch of celebs during your 10 years in radio. Who’s been the best so far?
When I worked at Nova, I got into the elevator and Sporty Spice herself, Mel C, was in there. She was on the phone and I just stared at her and was like, “oh my god, oh my god!” She looked at me and said, “is the little girl in you having a fit right now?” And I was like, “yes, I’m dying!” We had a photo together and it was the best.
The Hot Hits with Nic and Loren can be heard nationally on the Hit Network from Monday to Thursday from 7pm to 10pm, and Saturdays from 3pm to 5pm.
The Marty Sheargold Show can be heard nationally on Triple M from 3-4pm weekdays, and then from 4-6pm on Triple M stations in NSW and Qld.
