Popular TV chef Anne Burrell found dead at home

This prolific TV chef and host of several television shows has been found dead at her home at the age of 55.

US Food Network chef Anne Burrell has died. She was 55.

The TV personality was found unconscious around 7.50am at her Brooklyn, New York, home on Tuesday morning, local time, a New York Police Department spokesperson told Page Six.

Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead.

Burrell’s cause of death hasn’t been revealed, and an investigation is ongoing.

The culinary icon’s family released a statement obtained by Page Six, describing her as a “beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend.”

“Her smile lit up every room she entered,” they wrote.

“Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

A Food Network spokesperson also commented on Burrell’s death in a statement obtained by Page Six.

“Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring,” the statement read. “Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

Ahead of her death, Burrell appeared healthy and happy in a selfie shared via Instagram five days before her death.

She was married to Stuart Claxton, whom she wed in October 2021.

The couple tied the knot at the celebrity chef’s house in Cazenovia — Burrell’s upstate New York hometown.

Burrell, who has previously dated a woman, was also the stepmother to Claxton’s son, Javier.

The Worst Cooks in America host, meanwhile, started her culinary career shortly after graduating from Canisius College in New York with her degrees in English and communication.

She later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1997 and then spent a year in Italy at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners.

Burrell went on to cook at several restaurants before teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education.

The Cook Like a Rock Star author kickstarted her career on TV in 2005 when she appeared on Iron Chef America as a sous chef.

Three years later, she got her own show, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which aired for eight seasons until 2012.

Burrell also made several appearances in Chef Wanted, Chopped and other Food Network segments.

Her most recent show was the Food Network’s House of Knives competition, which aired in March.

In June 2024, Burrell — who was known for her spiky blonde hair — gave Page Six an exclusive look at her vibrant loft, including her kitchen, located in the Carroll Gardens neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

“I had an architect/designer, and … the design part he was offering was very beige — and I’m not beige,” she told us.

“Everything here is a little crooked, and I think that suits me just well,” she added. “I think I’m a little crooked, so I feel right at home here.”
