Nine star Amelia Adams sparks Today show speculation while filling in for Allison Langdon

As rumours surrounding a shake-up at Channel 9 continue, a “rising star” has made her debut on the Today show desk alongside Karl Stefanovic.

After 17 years as host, Tracy Grimshaw announces she is leaving A Current Affair

The Today show might just be trialling a new co-host, if the rumours are true that Ally Langdon is set to take over from Tracy Grimshaw as host of A Current Affair.

This morning, Nine breakfast TV viewers woke up to Karl Stefanovic and former international correspondent Amelia Adams on the desk, while Langdon took the morning off.

It comes amid widespread industry whispers that Langdon is a top contender to fill Tracy Grimshaw’s seat when she departs A Current Affair later this month.

At this stage, it is still largely unclear who would take over as Stefanovic’s co-host if Langdon jumps to prime time.

On Thursday, Stefanovic gushed over Adams’ illustrious journalism career, introducing her as “one of Australia’s all-time great correspondents”.

The 39-year-old has spent four years reporting overseas, with her live coverage from the U.S. Capitol during the January 6 riots winning her two Kennedy Awards and a Walkley nomination.

“From the pinnacles of reporting greatness to working with Alex [Cullen, newsreader] and I. It’s a long way down,” Stefanovic joked.

Adams’ appearance comes following speculation Sarah Abo is actually tipped to fill Langdon’s Today show seat, with industry website TV Blackboxnow listing “rising star” Adams as a contender.

Back in August, Nine announced Adams would be making a permanent move to 60 Minutes in 2023, however the move may be reconsidered in the coming months.

TV Blackbox also reports “no firm decision has been made” regarding ACA in 2023, but Langdon’s name “keeps being whispered” by insiders.

It comes as suspicion Carrie Bickmore is making the jump to Nine intensifies after confirmation she is leaving the Ten network altogether when she signs off on The Project on November 30.

TV Tonight reported Bickmore will be leaving Channel 10 altogether after 17 years with the network. A spokesperson told TV Tonight: “Yes, Carrie is leaving 10, but we hope to work with her again.”

When she announced her intentions, Bickmore choked back tears as she said: “It’s been the hardest decision of my professional life to make this call, but it’s time for a new challenge.

“I’m going to miss my best mates on the desk, the job itself which is just so incredibly fulfilling, our wonderful viewers who’ve been on the journey over the last 13 years.

“It’s no secret this show has become a second home for me and I can’t be more thankful to everyone that has been involved on and off screen.

“I’m leaving at a time that I’m so happy to be here, which feels so confusing, but I just know it’s time, I know it’s right.”

There are several contenders to replace Bickmore on the desk, including the names on its regular roster of guest panellists such as Chrissie Swan, Georgie Tunny, Jan Fran and Susie Youssef.
