Kylie Minogue opens Tension World Tour in Perth

Spectacular photos and video show Kylie Minogue has pulled out all the stops for her first Aussie tour in six years. WARNING: Spoilers.

Kylie Minogue opens world tour in Perth

Kylie Minogue opened her Tension World Tour at Perth’s RAC Arena on Saturday night, ahead of another nine dates around the country in the coming weeks.

The hit-filled show marks Minogue’s first full-length Australian tour since her Golden jaunt in 2019.

That tour was a more intimate affair, with Minogue playing wineries and theatres, but three albums – and one surprise monster hit in Padam Padam – later, Kylie’s back to playing arenas, with three virtually sold-out nights each in Sydney and Melbourne booked in days to come.

Photos from the first night of the tour, which will eventually play 70 dates worldwide over the next six months, recall past Minogue high points like the X and Aphrodite tours. There are giant video screens, a troupe of backing dancers and, in one spectacular set piece, the star performs while suspended in the air inside a giant laser cage.

Setlist-wise, Minogue has included a healthy smattering of songs from the three albums released since she last toured Australia – Disco, Tension and Tension II – and even debuted her latest single, Last Night I Dreamt I Fell in Love, a collaboration with DJ Alok that was only released the day before the show.

But it’s also a crowd-pleasing set that’s heavy on hits from throughout her entire career, from early smashes The Loco-Motion and I Should Be So Lucky, to 90s classics Better the Devil You Know and Confide In Me, to all four big singles from the album that was her commercial peak, 2001’s Fever.

The Tension World Tour continues with a show in Adelaide on Tuesday before multiple concerts in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in the coming weeks (including, somewhat controversially, a show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on the same night as Mardi Gras).
