IT’S refreshing to hear a little honesty from a celebrity in these days of manufactured quotes and self-serving snaps from Instagram and Twitter.
Keith Urban, who starts his Light The Fuse tour in Townsville on Saturday, said he was planning a sneaky holiday with wife, Nicole Kidman, next month.
Their daughters Sunday and Faith will not be going with them.
“I think it’s very important to get that time together as well,” Urban said.
“When Sunday asks why they don’t get to come with us, we say it’s mum and dad’s ‘kissy kissy time’ and she’s ‘Oh, OK,’” he added laughing.

Urban also revealed that he and Kidman felt “sucker punched” by the “personal” attacks by critics for her new film Grace Of Monaco.

The country music superstar said the critical onslaught directed at Kidman, instead of the film, had been “very hurtful”.
“People say it’s not personal; it’s very personal, I am her husband and this hurt,” he said.
“It takes a lot of people to make a movie, it’s not one person and Nic wasn’t the director, the producer, the editor.
“As she said, she did her best and if that’s not good enough, so be it.
“The rest of it is unbelievable, the way some people latched onto the fervour of it, making it so personal.
“We are a husband and wife, mum and dad and it hurts, it really hurts because it is not like we have gone out and attacked somebody or been caught out for something, some illegality or abusive behaviour ... it felt like someone sucker punched us.
“There is so much stuff going on in the world that requires serious attention that it would be great to see that kind of passion directed to those issues and causes.”
Urban, Kidman and their daughters Sunday and Faith arrived back in Australia on Wednesday and will attend the fundraising Celebrate Life Masquerade Ball in Melbourne tonight before he kicks off his arena tour.
The American Idol judge said after a hectic schedule of touring and filming commitments for the pair, they were enjoying spending family time together.
“I just found out there are masks involved, which seems a little S and M-ish,” Urban joked.
“I haven’t been to a masked ball before, I’m your typical husband who doesn’t know what’s going on, but I hope it’s a little Zorro-esque.”
The musician’s arrival home is perfectly timed as he rides high in the Australian charts again, with his Fuse record bulleting back into the top 10 and single Shame jumping back into the top 40 after his recent performance on The Voice.
He has signed on to do the next season on American Idol, with Harry Connick Jr also confirming he will be back and Jennifer Lopez expected to return.
His music has found a significantly wider audience both here and in the US courtesy of his television gigs.
“And thank goodness. At the end of the day, every musician is just trying to get their music heard, and more than ever before, we are just swimming in new music,” Urban said.
But the television-led boost to his audience does create a setlist dilemma for the Light The Fuse concerts, with Urban now having to satisfy fans who have been with him since the beginning and those who discovered his considerable charm during the first season of The Voice.
“That is fantastic but I am a little baffled to work out what the Australian audience want to hear,” he said.
“There are some people who don’t know anything before (2009 album) Defying Gravity.”
