Justin Bieber tells 70,000 at ANZ Stadium Sydney it’s ‘the best night of my life’ three times

JUSTIN Bieber tried to turn ANZ Stadium into a nightclub and gave it his all and his 70,000 fans loved every second of the pop star’s show.

JUSTIN Bieber scored the world’s biggest hug when he performed for more than 70,000 adoring fans at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on the final Australian show of his Purpose tour.

After he made a post during the week encouraging fans to “hug more”, his Beliebers seemed determined to send that back his way.

Bieber has confounded some critics and fans with his ‘going through the motions’ performance on the tour.

And there is something of the detached cool about his onstage persona when his Instagram account occasionally showcases that beaming smile.

And yes, Justin smiled in Sydney.

In fact he declared it “the best night of my life” not once but three times. Which means it must be true, right?

The fans love him, they really, really love him and those not screaming non-stop in breathless hysteria loudly expressed their desire to give Bieber a “hug.”

He certainly appeared to be engaged at the Sydney show, thanking them, revving them up to “make some noise” and bounce, as you do at a pop concert.

His voice is impressive in the cavernous arena; not as pristine as Adele had been in-the-round at the same venue over the weekend.

But she also wasn’t trying to do a nightclub in a sports stadium and Bieber’s production is massive.

There is nothing intimate about it beyond the ubiquitous acoustic moment when he sank into a couch at the end of his catwalk, played his guitar and the crowd sang along to Love Yourself.

And the phone torch piano song, Life Is Worth Living.

Lasers, pyros, up-to-the-minute choreography, that skate ramp of a stage all announce this is a Pop Star Show.

It’s not just the music — and Bieber’s hair colour — which has so obviously changed since he was last here on tour three years ago

The crowd is remarkably different, the young girls who wore denim shorts are now young women in jeans.

And there are men. Lots of them and not just boyfriends in the company of their Belieber girlfriends.

Bieber’s entry into clubland via Diplo and Skrillex has brought some of the young male EDM festival goers who also love the work of his opening act mate, the world’s No. 1 DJ Martin Garrix to his show.

He smashed it out of the park, even getting on the drum kit with the high-energy dancing, and definitely all live singing of As Long As You Love Me.

But as any rock fan will tell you Justin, drum solos are best left to a handful of great drummers.

Perhaps one of the most sweet moments of the concert came when he invited a handful of pint-sized fans onto the stage during Children and introduced them to the crowd. It was a big brother scene which surely most seem surreal to a young man who became famous at 15.

Bieber’s Sydney concert may have signalled the young pop star choosing a less bumpier road, one that focuses on his undeniable talent rather than an abundant attitude.
