‘It’s good to be back’: Oasis kicks off reunion tour in style

Noel Gallagher’s ex-wife Meg Matthews is understood to have “walked out” of Oasis’ first comeback concert, after the band stunned her and thousands of other fans.

Noel Gallagher’s ex-wife Meg Matthews is understood to have “walked out” of Oasis’ first comeback concert before Wonderwall — a song he wrote about her — was played.

According to The UK Mirror, a source said: “After posting about her ex-husband for weeks, Meg Mathews had a prime seat for watching the band.

“She was in great spirits before the set, watching Richard Ashcroft with pals.”

However, after Oasis returned on stage for a three-song encore which included Don’t Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, she is reported to have left.

The former couple were married from 1996 before divorcing four years later, and Noel wrote Wonderwall for Meg, when they were a couple.

Despite this, she posted on Instagram, praising the band with a video of the gig, saying: “5 stars️ loved every minute thank you Oasis … you were brilliant. @PorthtowanBeachShop best gig buddy …. Great to see all the old faces … it was worth the count down.”

The couple’s daughter Anais was spotted wishing his luck before the gig.

On TikTok, Anais, 25, was seen dancing at the concert.

Noel and his brother Liam Gallagher have reunited on stage for the first time in 16 years – stunning the crowd at the start of Oasis’ historic reunion tour.

The band played to 75,000 screaming fans at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on the opening night of their highly anticipated reunion tour. (They’ll hit Melbourne and Sydney from October 31-November 8.)

According to The Sun, the Gallaghers, who have feuded for more than a decade, put the bad blood aside, smiling at each other and nodding during the set.

They opened with Hello from the classic 1995 album, What’s The Story, Morning Glory, after which a parka-clad Liam shouted “it’s good to be back” before going into fan favourite Acquiesce from their 1994 debut, Definitely Maybe.

Before their third song, (What’s the story) Morning Glory? Liam said: “Hello people, it’s been too long.”

He then brought out his iconic tambourine as the band performed Some Might Say, The Sun reported.

Before going into Cigarettes & Alcohol, Liam told fans to “jump up and down when the tune starts”.

The frenzy literally caused the floor to shake as the band went into Fade Away, Supersonic and Roll With It.

Fans sang along word-for-word as Noel took centre stage to sing Talk Tonight, Half The World Away and Little By Little before making a crack about rising ticket prices, joking, “It’s just gone up”.

Added Liam: “What’s happening? Everyone having a good time yeah? Is it worth the £4,000 you paid for a ticket?

It was hit after hit with Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Do You Know What I Mean?, Stand By Me, Cast No Shadow and Slide Away all on the set list, sending fans into a frenzy.

Support act Cast, a Britpop band from Liverpool, kicked the gig off with their 1995 hit Sandstorm.

Midway through their set, they paid tribute to Liverpool soccer star Diogo Jota who died in a car crash this week.

Singer John Power dedicated their track, Walkaway, to the late Portuguese star.

He said “This is Walkaway. This one is for Diogo Jota. Take it easy brother.”

The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft next.

He opened with his 1997 hit Sonnet and told the crowd he was “so proud to be here”.

“This one’s for Noel and Liam,” he said, as he dedicated his last song to the iconic duo. Both acts previously shared the stage with Oasis in the 1990s.
