Brian Jonestown Massacre have abruptly cancelled the rest of their Aussie tour, as fans turn on them over their “disturbing” Melbourne concert.

American rock band Brian Jonestown Massacre have abruptly cancelled the remainder of their Australian tour, following a bizarre onstage biffo during their Melbourne show.

The band’s Tuesday night’s gig at The Forum in Melbourne’s CBD came to a sudden end just six songs in when a fist fight broke out between the San Francisco band’s founder Anton Newcombe, and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt.

Wild clips of the mid-show brawl soon circulated on social media, showing the band members chasing each other around the stage and violently wrestling each other, as other members of the band and crew struggle to separate them.

The venue’s safety curtain was then lowered, ending the concert after just a handful of songs had been performed.

Brian Jonestown Massacre were due to perform another sold out show on Wednesday night, at the Theatre Royal in the regional town of Castlemaine, but a statement on that venue’s website yesterday stated that the show had been cancelled “on medical grounds.”

Two more planned shows – at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre tonight, and the University of Wollongong’s UniBar tomorrow night – have also been cancelled for the same reason, ending the band’s Australian tour.

The band themselves are yet to publicly discuss the events of Tuesday’s show; the most recent post on their official Instagram account is a clip of their Sunday Canberra show, the seventh of this largely sold-out Australian tour, teasing their soon-to-be infamous gig with the teaser: “Melbourne tonight!”

Fans who attended the show at the Forum have since flooded the post with savage reviews of what they witnessed on Monday night.

“Possibly the worst train wreck of a band I’ve ever seen. I feel musically abused,” one fan wrote.

“Payed big money to see music, got a WWE act instead,” quipped another concertgoer.

“You should refund everyone. What an awful show and to throw things into the audience. Dangerous and out of line,” wrote another.

“Pathetic behaviour from Anton in Melbourne. I felt bad for his bandmates. Never again I will put myself in this situation. This behaviour is not accepted anymore! Go get some help,” one concertgoer advised.

“I need trauma counselling after that Forum gig! Disturbing behaviour on stage. Still shaking my head in disbelief,” wrote another person who attended the gig.

Fans with tickets to the remaining shows of the band’s tour will receive a full refund.
