A man who made threats against Taylor Swift on social media was detained when trying to enter her concert in Germany, it’s been reported.
The suspected stalker, a 34-year-old whose name wasn’t released, had a ticket to Swift’s concert at Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins-Arena on Wednesday.
Police said that because an initial investigation couldn’t entirely rule out a risk, he was detained during entry checks to the event.
The man had reportedly made several threats against Swift and her partner, Travis Kelce, on social media. Police said he had been detained following tips from organisers of the event.
The American superstar had shows in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as part of her Eras Tour.
The man was reportedly ordered to be held behind bars until Saturday after Swift wrapped up her three back-to-back shows in the city.
Swift, 34, is currently touring through Europe on her record-breaking tour and will next stop in Hamburg for two nights before moving on to Munich for three shows.
Kelce has been following his Grammy-winning girlfriend around the globe since his team won the Super Bowl in February. In addition to the two nights in Germany, he has attended performances in Buenos Aires, Sydney, Singapore, Paris, London, Dublin and Amsterdam.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, also 34, supported the “Karma” singer at her first two shows in Germany and was seen lovingly wrapping his arm around her shoulder as they exited the stage on Thursday night.
Previously, Kansas City Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt said there were rigid protocols in place to ensure Swift’s safety at NFL games during her numerous outings to support Kelce towards the end of 2023 and into this year.
“Obviously, anywhere she goes is a security issue,” Mr Hunt said.
“It’s something that we’ve helped her security team handle when she comes to games in Kansas City and I know the visiting teams that we’ve played this year where she’s shown up have had to do the same thing.
“She has a really talented security team. They liaise with our security team, and we make sure we get her into and out of the stadium safely.”
