Spice Girl’s shady public post about bandmate

Spice Girl Mel B couldn’t resist a dig or two at bandmate Geri Halliwell as she wished her a happy 52nd birthday.

With friends like these …

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner turned 52 yesterday, and all four of her Spice bandmates publicly wished her a happy birthday via Instagram.

One stood out among the well wishes: Scary Spice Mel B, who couldn’t resist the chance to take a few cheeky digs at her bandmate.

“Happy 75th bday Ginge,” Mel B, 49, captioned a vintage photo of the pair together in their Spice heyday, adding 23 years to her bandmate’s age.

This is far from the first time in recent years Mel B has made a public crack about Halliwell’s age – only a few months ago, she claimed on a podcast that “no one knows how old Geri is. No one’s seen her passport. I mean, I know we’ve travelled the world, but I still don’t know how old she is.”

Mel B followed it up with several other vintage Spice pics, and then a photo of Geri: The solo years. The 2004 photo shows Haliwell during a performance at iconic London nightclub G-A-Y, wearing a top with the phrase “Dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians.”

“Yasssss,” Mel captioned the pic.

Mel, who is bisexual and was once in a five-year relationship with a woman, infamously confirmed a longstanding Spice rumour in a 2019 interview with Piers Morgan: Yes, she and Geri had once hooked up back in the band’s early days.

“It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it,” she said, adding that Geri had “great boobs.”

“She is going to hate me for this because she is all posh in her country house and her husband, but it’s a fact,” she said.

“It was just that once,” Mel B continued. “And hopefully when Geri gets asked that, which hopefully she will after this, she won’t deny it. Because it was just a fun thing.”

But Geri did deny Mel B’s claims, with a representative saying in a statement to E! News that “it has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother’s Day of all days … She would like you to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.”

Making matters even more awkward, the entire ordeal played out just weeks before the Spice Girls embarked on their most recent reunion, 2019’s Spice World stadium tour of the UK and Ireland.

Mel B’s controversial posts were in contrast to the words her bandmates chose to mark Geri’s mileston: “Sending my beautiful friend inside and out all the love on your birthday. @gerihalliwellhorner love you lots,” wrote Emma Bunton, while Victoria Beckham sent her bandmate birthday “kisses.” Melanie C told her pal “Ginge” to have a brilliant day, hope we get chance to celebrate together before too long. Love ya.”

Mel B’s certainly earned a reputation as the most loose-lipped Spice Girl, frequently delivering snippets of gossip about her bandmates to the media that you’d have to imagine they aren’t too thrilled have been made public.

Recently asked by Attitude Magazine which Spice Girls song she would choose to describe each of her bandmates, Mel B offered the caustic banger Tell Me Why for Melanie C, who at the time was about to embark on an extended DJ tour of Australia.

“She’s so sensitive, questioning ‘why? Why did it end up this way? What’s going on?! Why am I in Australia doing a DJ tour when I want to be with you girls on stage?!’ It’s that panic,” she revealed.

On the final night Spice Girls’ 2019 tour, Mel made world headlines as the band said their goodbyes, announcing “we’ll see you in February in Australia!”

By the next morning she was walking back the comments many had interpreted as confirmation of what would’ve been the group’s first Australian tour, explaining during a radio interview on 2Day FM: “You know me by now. I announced it on stage, yes, without everybody else signing off 100 per cent, but I figured if I put it out there, maybe it’s going to happen.”
