Singer Jelly Roll is barely recognisable in new video
In a personal update shared online, the singer reveals the sad reason for his signature look, which he has now gone without.
Jelly Roll has debuted a dramatic new look, leaving fans stunned by his unrecognisable appearance.
The Liar singer — real name Jason Bradley DeFord — jumped on social media to share a video of his freshly shaven face, bidding farewell to the signature beard fans know so well.
“By now you’ve probably figured out I look like a Ninja Turtle, um yeah this is crazy,” he began the video, before moving on to the sad reason why he grew a beard in the first place.
“One of the reasons I even started growing a beard was because I was so obese, it was just easier to cover up what was happening here.”
The crooner’s honest video comes as his wife, Bunnie Xo, hinted to the transformation earlier this month.
In a post shared online, the podcaster revealed that her star hubby had finally shaved off his beard after sporting it for 10 years for a shoot, and would be sharing the new look with his fans when he was “ready”.
“I have never seen this man without his facial hair. Not one freaking time,” she said in her post.
“Because now that he’s so skinny - look at that freaking jawline - we wanna see that jawline, right, ladies?”
Fans were lapping up the star’s new look sans facial hair, but most took to the comments section of the post to praise the star for how genuine and honest he is with his fans.
“Real one right here folks…As real as they get️,” one person said.
“Please never lose your genuineness, don’t let the industry change you!” another wrote.
And another fan commented: “U look great with or without facial hair.”
The multi-Grammy-nominated crooner has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years, dropping an impressive 90 kgs since kickstarting his weight loss journey in 2022.
Looking noticeably different each time he shares private moments online, the star credits being a healthier and happier version of himself through good old fashioned exercise and healthy eating.
“It’s cool because there was once a time in life that the culture I built on tour was the opposite. It revolved around alcohol and drugs,” he told People.
“And now our tour culture is around good eating and around exercising and doing emotional check-ins with our crew every day.”
Fresh off an Aussie visit, there’s certainly a lot going on in Jelly Roll’s life right now.
Earlier this week, the singer’s wife Bunnie revealed she will be heading to jail for driving with a suspended license.
The star shared the news on her Dumb Blonde podcast, admitting she was recently pulled over by police and told she’d need to “book herself in”.
“First of all, I didn’t know that was an option. Growing up as a criminal, if you give me that option, I’m never checking myself in,” she joked, while also sharing that she plans on taking her fans along for the ride when she does go.
“I got my lawyer on it... It looks like your girl is gonna have to go book herself in. If I do you guys have seen all my past mug shots - I’m going in glammed the f**k up, baby, and I’m going to vlog it.”
