Midnight Oil’s final shows on farewell tour will honour a fave album and all their classic songs

Midnight Oil have a massive surprise waiting for fans lucky enough to snap up tickets to four shows being added to their farewell tour.

Midnight Oil have added four final shows to their farewell world tour and you can bet tickets will sell out in minutes.

While the beloved rockers have toured Australia, Europe and the US on the back of their No. 1 album Resist, these Sydney and Melbourne gigs are going to be a very different show.

The band head back into small arenas under the banner One For The Planet to perform their 1982 album 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 in recognition of its 40th anniversary.

That record featured some of their biggest songs including Power and the Passion and US Forces and remained on the Australian charts for a mammoth 171 weeks.

These shows will be held at the Palais in Melbourne on September 12 and the Big Top at Luna Park in Sydney on September 28, with the Oils planning to donate some proceeds from the gigs to environmental and Indigenous causes.

“We’ve always supported causes that we believe are important during our tours so these four extra gigs are partly a way of doing that”, Peter Garrett said.

The other two concerts called One For The Road, will be an extended set of “classics” from every album and EP across their five-decade career, kicking off at the Palais on September 14.

The Sydney show will be their last hurrah on the world tour and at the historic Hordern Pavilion on October 3.

And while it feature the “classics”, drummer Rob Hirst promised some “deep cuts” which have become fan favourites over the decades.

“From the opening track on our first album through to the last song on our new one, we’ve always been blessed to have fans who are really passionate about what we do,” Hirst said.

“One For The Planet and One For The Road are our way of acknowledging that connection over 45 years.

“We’ve all shared an amazing journey together, so we want to celebrate that by playing something for everyone in places that feel special.”
