WILL the real Liam Gallagher watch his tribute show near-namesake Laim Gallagher while in Melbourne?
Former Oasis singer Gallagher plays Festival Hall tonight, on the back of rave reviews of his performances at the Falls Festival.
To mark the occasion, Melbourne Oasis cover band Shakerfaker are playing Cherry Bar on Saturday.
“It’s Liam’s favourite bar in Melbourne,” Shakerfaker singer ‘Laim’, aka Kieran O’Sullivan says.
“Oasis visited Cherry back in the day, so we’re faintly hoping Liam might make an appearance. We did some research and it looks like he’s got a few nights off after his Melbourne show. We’ve sent him some Tweets to try and get his attention, we got any one we know or who likes the band to Tweet at Liam, he seems to respond to people on Twitter.
“We managed to send some stuff to someone in his camp who said they think Liam would find it hilarious watching an Oasis cover band. Although I have a recurring nightmare of seeing Liam walking in as I’m performing and thinking to do I reign it in or ham it up more?”
The band formed 12 years ago and O’Sullivan believes they’re the only Oasis tribute act in the country.
As well as Oasis classics Wonderwall, Morning Glory, Supersonic, Roll With It and Rock and Roll Star, the band also throw in tracks like Whatever, album cuts from Be Here Now (“it’s my favourite Oasis album”) and key b-sides.
While they’re serious musicians they also play up the trademark Gallagher family feud between their own “Laim” and “Nole”.

Recent shows have included a pair of scissors — a nod to Liam’s dismay that Noel’s new solo album includes someone playing a scissor solo.
“There’s a simmering animosity during the show,” O’Sullivan said. “When Nole does Don’t Look Back in Anger I’ll walk into the crowd and heckle him. I’m a bit of a pantomime villain being Liam at his best or worst. There’s a lot of staring down the audience. We did a show last week and it was full of the Barmy Army coming after the cricket and they loved it. We’re all Oasis fans. We just love playing these great songs and making people happy and watching them sing the songs back at us.”
Gallagher released his first solo album As You Were last year.
His solo show features tracks from that album as well as a swag of Oasis classics, including Wonderwall.
His last visit to Australia was with his post Oasis band Beady Eye, who replaced Blur when they pulled out of the 2014 Big Day Out at the last minute.
However they only played one Oasis song, disappointing fans.
Gallagher told the Herald Sun last month “The reason I didn’t do any Oasis songs in Beady Eye is because Andy (Bell) and Gem (Archer) and the rest of them thought we should go out on our own. I get that. But I thought we’d come unstuck because people are working their arses off and paying money to see us. The reason people were coming through the door at Beady Eye shows was not to see Gem and Andy, I’m not being a big headed c — t, but they were coming to see me, they’re coming to see what the foundations that Beady Eye was built on which was Oasis. To not play Oasis songs in Beady Eye was a stupid move to be fair, so I’m glad we’ve got back to doing them.”
