The frontwoman of iconic 90s rock band Garbage has given fans a health update after undergoing “major surgery”.

Lead singer Shirley Manson has taken to Instagram to reveal that she is “learning to walk again” in the days after she underwent surgery for an unknown condition.

“I am currently at home, slowly learning how to walk again, shuffling around with a walker in my rehab pyjamas,” the 58-year-old wrote in a lengthy post shared on Garbage’s official Instagram page.

“Feeling rather uncomfortable and more than a bit weakened,” she added, while giving no further details about the procedure.

To accompany her post, Manson shared a “dreamy photo” of herself taken months ago as a reminder that she can overcome her latest hurdle.

“I decided to post this dreamy photo taken but a few months ago now to remind myself that a little struggle is just a little struggle and a pretty photo is just a pretty photo but both can be exceedingly powerful and redeeming in their own ways,” she added.

“The thing to remember is, you are always holding your own microphone and nobody can take it away from you.”

In a separate post on Monday, she said she was choosing to stay positive as there are so many things to be thankful for in this world.

“I’m choosing to remind myself, as I lie here trying to recover from major surgery, that there are still beautiful things in the world,” she wrote alongside a selfie with her dog in bed, where she has spent the past week.

“Animals, flowers, oceans, trees. I’m so grateful to all the people who have gone out of their way to love on me, take care of me, check in on me. I cling on to their kindness and their thoughtfulness and their care.”

Last week, she also posted a photo from her hospital with bed while attached to monitors. In the photo, she held up two peace signs while declaring, “She lives.”

Manson’s health battle comes two months after Garbage cancelled their remaining shows for the year after the frontwoman sustained an injury on their European tour.

The cancelled shows include several high-profile festivals, including Ohana Fest in California and HFStival in Washington, DC.

“It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of all our remaining dates for the rest of the year due to an injury that Shirley sustained on our recent tour in Europe that will require surgery and rehabilitation to correct,” they wrote in a statement at the time.

“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, and we apologise to our amazing fans and supportive promoters. We look forward to playing for you all again in 2025.”

Manson also spoke out personally on her social media, expressing her disappointment over the cancelled shows.

“No one is more crushed about this than I am. You know I would push through if I could,” she wrote.

Manson has yet to elaborate on the injury she sustained or how it was caused.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first injury she suffered while on tour. Back in 2016, she fell off a stage during a gig in Los Angeles and underwent hip replacement surgery to address it just last year.

Garbage have enjoyed success since 1995 when they debuted their self-titled album. The album achieved double-platinum status, thanks to hits such as Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains.
