Jimmy and Jane Barnes marked the first anniversary of the passing of their late mate Jock Zonfrillo with a poignant dawn bagpipe-led tribute.

The rocker and his family quietly observed a lone bagpiper playing on the shoreline of Bondi Beach at 5am on Wednesday.

“On the beach before dawn, a lone piper playing in memory of our dear friend Jock Zonfrillo who left us one year ago,” the rocker posted with a video of the piper playing.

“It was a true Scottish morning, cold, wet, windy, sand blowing onto our faces. Yes you were there.”

His wife Jane also shared her grief at the loss of the beloved MasterChef judge and sent love to his wife Lauren and Zonfrillo’s children.

“Aah Jock, this year has flown by so fast but it feels like you’ve been gone for so long. The lonely bagpipe, the wind and rain, a Scottish scene,” she posted.

It is believed Lauren organised the moving piper memorial to her late husband.

The Barnes and Zonfrillo families became close friends, with Jimmy and Jock sharing a bond via their Scottish heritage and love of food.

The pair loved to share recipes and had spent years trying to perfect their version of the Glasgow roll, a square sausage sandwich.

The rocker and his daughter Mahalia sang a deeply emotional rendition of Amazing Grace at Zonfrillo’s funeral in Sydney a year ago.

MasterChef also paid tribute to the late chef on the first anniversary of his passing on their social media channels.

“In memory of Jock, one year on. ‘In life, you give back more than you take,’” the post read.

The motto is engraved on a plaque which has been placed permanently in the MasterChef garden at the show’s Melbourne headquarters.
