Iconic rock band heading to Australia for surprise gig but not all fans are happy

Aussie fans of US rock band Foo Fighters are scratching their heads over their decision to perform in one unlikely state only.

Foo Fighters' social teases spark album announcement speculation

Australians are about to get the best of Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters bandmates, but it’s not going to be all of us.

The iconic rock band, together with touring company Frontier Touring, has announced a comeback tour in Oz, this time only performing for one night only...and in one town only... Launceston, Tasmania.

Billboards were erected around Tassie over the past week with the Fooies’ iconic “FF” logo, hinting some big news was coming.

“Give me a reason, show me a sign,” the caption from Frontier Touring read on Instagram, with a photo of the sign erected over a local pub.

Needless to say, it caused a frenzy among fans.

“Ummm... OK. I’m listening,” one fan wrote.

“Oh we’re ready,” another wrote and plenty of other excited fans simply wrote “OMG.”

Shortly afterwards, the surprise gig was confirmed.

“ANNOUNCING Take Cover Tasmania, @foofighters are coming! Playing Launceston for the first time ever + one night only this summer, this is a rock show for the history books - don’t miss out!”

Brisbane rockers Full Flower Moon Band and local trio Spooky Eyes will support them for the special night set to be taking place at Launceston’s York Park (aka UTAS Stadium) on January 24.

While the rockers have visited Australia plenty of times in the past, including Hobart for the Sonic Highways world tour in 2015, they have never hit the stage in Launceston.

Still, the treat for the small town didn’t sit well with the wider Aussie fanbase, who were vocal with their disappointment about the tour not including other states.

“We need Perth dates included,” one person included.

“Adelaide please,” begged another.

Another fan asked: “What about NZ?”

Meanwhile, others speculated that a larger tour is on its way - with this short stop being a mere tease.

“Surely a full tour is on its way,” someone said.

Tickets for the Launceston show go on sale Wednesday, December 10.
