Eye-watering sum Mariah Carey earns each Christmas
It’s time! The Queen of Christmas has kicked off her run of Yuletide shows in Las Vegas as her impressive amount in royalties is revealed.
Mariah Carey launches herself into Christmas - and jingles all the way to the bank.
The superstar, 56, pulled out all the festive stops as she kicked off her run of Yuletide shows in Las Vegas.
At one point the singer descended from the rafters in a striped figure-hugging Christmassy frock while sitting on a giant snowflake.
She also dazzled in a skimpy gold sequin mini-dress as she belted out her hits as part of her Christmas Time In Las Vegas residency.
For her showstopper, All I Want For Christmas Is You, Mariah slipped into a sexy red and white playsuit as she performed with marching toy soldiers and Santa Claus himself, who she calls her “dude”.
The song - originally released in 1994 - is the most streamed Christmas track ever and pulls in an estimated £2-3 million (AU$3.8 - $5.7 million) in royalties every year.
By 2023, it was reported to have made more than £75 million (AU$151 million).
The five-time Grammy winner previously revealed she started writing it on a little Casio keyboard.
She recalled: “My goal was to do something timeless, so it didn’t feel like the nineties.”
She admits she is still surprised by its success, but reckons people like it because it is genuine.
She said: “I really, truly love the holidays. It’s not fake.”
The New York-born mother-of-two’s Christmas traditions at home appear to be as extravagant as her shows.
Mariah, whose reported wealth stands at £300 million (AU$600 million), said: “I look forward to Christmas the whole year round!
“We go to Aspen, which is my favourite place to celebrate Christmas because it’s always snowy and it’s one of the best places ever.
“We do all sorts of things. We go on a sleigh ride with the kids and my extended family, I cook, Santa Claus comes over.
“I know it sounds like I’m making it up but it’s true - I know him personally, he’s my dude.
“We have live reindeer. It’s an extravaganza.”
