Queensland’s screen industry is celebrating another major win with the commencement of filming for the locally produced supernatural thriller Posthumous, set to inject approximately $3.7 million into the state economy.
The film, created by Queensland-based production company Imposter Syndrome and backed by Screen Queensland and Screen Australia, will employ around 150 local cast and crew members throughout its Brisbane and Gold Coast shoots.
Written and directed by Brisbane filmmakers Josh Tanner and Jade van der Lei — known for critically acclaimed short films The Landing and Wandering Soul — Posthumous’ story follows Zoe, a woman compelled to return to her childhood home, where she confronts a malevolent supernatural force tied to secrets surrounding her late mother.
Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek praised the project as evidence of Queensland’s growing reputation as a hub for domestic and international screen production.
“Posthumous is another example of the incredible pipeline of work being created right here in Queensland,” Minister Langbroek said.
The film boasts a prominent Australian ensemble cast, including Sophie Lowe, Remy Hii, Doris Younane, David Roberts, George Pullar, Christopher James Baker, Mia Morrissey, and newcomer Kira-Che Heelan.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney highlighted the agency’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local filmmakers.
“We have supported Josh and Jade’s careers across several talent development initiatives over the years and are proud to have backed their debut feature Posthumous from script to screen.,” Ms Feeney said.
Filming will continue over the coming months, adding to Queensland’s flourishing production slate, which includes recent successes such as Black Snow, Good Cop/Bad Cop, Spit, and the anticipated Mortal Kombat 2.
