Hollywood action hero Liam Neeson is set to bring his latest blockbuster to a tiny town in Australia.

The actor and a team of filmmakers will descend on a small remote town in Victoria’s Gippsland region from next year.

Walhalla, which has a population of only 20 permanent residents currently living in the picturesque town, will be used as the base for filming Neeson’s latest movie.

The little-known town is located about 185km east of Melbourne, and is home to a tiny, tight-knit community.

Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky will be filming in the town for just over three weeks in January.

Work has begun on transforming the towns’ buildings for the film, which will star actor Neeson as the protagonist in the sequel to the smash hit Netflix movie.

In a letter sent out to residents and business owners, Servo Productions announced up to 90 cast would be filming in the town.

“You will notice increased activity in the lead up to and on filming days,” said the letter to residents.

“During preparations, you will notice changes to Walhalla’s Star Hotel and other landmarks on Main Road. Most notably at the Walhalla Rotunda, the Fire Station Museum and carpark.”

The town shared a post on its official Facebook page celebrating the news, and sharing more information with residents.

“In exciting news, the area around Walhalla’s Star Hotel and the rotunda is to be used for a Hollywood movie that’s being filmed in January,” said the post.

“The film, The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, is the sequel to The Ice Road starring Liam Neeson … who is making his return as big rig ice road trucker Mike McCann in this high impact action movie.

“The first film was set in Northern Canada, the sequel is set in Nepal … hence the vibrant colours … as the centre of Walhalla becomes a Nepalese village.

“Importantly, once the filming is completed, the buildings will be returned to their heritage colours like nothing has happened. Oh and if you’re wondering, how is Walhalla going to look like Nepal … the wonders of CGI folks!”

The film is a sequel to the 2021 film The Ice Road, which was centred around a remote mine collapse in northern Canada. .
