‘C***y face’: Vanessa Kirby stunned by Australian interviewer’s remark

Marvel star Vanessa Kirby was left bewildered during an interview in Sydney, in which she was made aware of discourse about her “face” online.

Vanessa Kirby has been schooled on vulgar Gen Z slang during her trip to Australia.

The English actress sat alongside The Fantastic Four: First Steps co-star Pedro Pascal for a flurry of interviews with local media to promote the upcoming Marvel film in Sydney this week.

Youth outlet Pedestrian. TV landed a slot with the star pair, where journalist Rebekah Manibog made Kirby aware of her apparent social media status as an icon who has a “forcefield, snatched, c***y, fierce face.”

Cue a mortified expression from the Mission Impossible star, who responded, “Oh god. I don’t know if that’s a good thing.”

Pascal – who is no stranger to having his own internet nicknames, notably ‘daddy’ – swiftly came to the rescue, assuring Kirby it was a “compliment”.

“F**k yeah,” Pascal declared.

C***y face is good babe,” he continued. “It means fierce, fabulous, beautiful, strong. It’s good. Promise.”

Kirby simply responded, “OK.”

Reaction to the interview has been overwhelmingly in support of Pascal for expertly propping up his female co-star amid her confusion.

“Our favourite internet daddy teaching everybody the lingo,” one wrote.

“Pedro Pascal being every female co-star’s biggest cheerleader will never get old,” another said.

“Rare example of a man saving the day,” a third added.

“Of course Pedro Pascal knows what this means,” a fourth wrote.

Others in the comment section pointed out how Kirby probably wasn’t the best person to drop the C-bomb to.

While the swearword has evolved as somewhat of a compliment, particularly in LGBTQ+ circles, there are certain people who believe it still carries a misogynistic undertone.

“Could’ve been worded more eloquently. Pedro saved the interviewer and turned it into something positive,” one said.

“Interviewer was lucky Pedro is so online,” another wrote.

“Calling someone this out of context in an interview is WILD,” a third wrote.

“Yikes! I’m with Vanessa. I don’t like that label,” said a fourth.

“Gurrrrrrl you are so lucky Pedro was there and aware coz that could’ve gone downhill SO FAST,” another chimed in.

The cast flew out of Sydney on Wednesday after a red carpet event to premiere the movie at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter Tuesday night.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps officially hits cinemas July 24.
