Disney’s newest leading lady Halle Bailey has gone wildly off-brand while promoting The Little Mermaid, with an explicit post on her TikTok page.
The US actress, 23, posted a video of herself strutting toward the camera dressed in a striking blue ball gown, which she wore at the live-action film’s Sydney premiere on Monday.
But rather than choose a family-friendly song to play alongside the clip (Under the Sea perhaps?), Bailey opted for a track called Pound Town, by Sexyy Red and Tay Keith.
Some of the lyrics - clearly audible in the TikTok - include:
I’m out of town, thuggin’ with my rounds / My c***hie pink, my booty hole brown / Where the n***as? Come lookin’ for the h**s / Quit playin’, n***a, come suck a b*tch toe
What would Sebastian the crab think?
The explicit nature of the post, juxtaposed against the PG-rated Disney movie she’s promoting, was not lost among Bailey’s TikTok followers, with thousands taking to the comments section to express their shock over her song choice.
“This song choice took me out!” one wrote, while another added, “Little mermaid acting up.”
Another said, “It’s givin’ little mermaid check (sic) cleared.”
A fourth chimed in, “Disney is sliding down the wall for the song choice.”
The Little Mermaid, which hits theatres on Thursday, is faithful, live-action adaptation of the beloved 1989 version, which stars Melissa McCarthy as the villain sea witch, Ursula.
It’s directed by Rob Marshall, whose previous Disney films include Mary Poppins Returns, Into The Woods and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
news.com.au spoke to Marshall on the red carpet in Sydney, where he responded to rumours that the film contains a cheeky dig at Kate Middleton.
“It’s absolutely false,” he said.
“I don’t know where that came from, that’s the most insane thing. People are hilarious how they just dig and find things. There’s no truth to that whatsoever.”
