Meghan Markle has joined Prince Harry on a trip to New York, giving her first interview since Oprah – and making a blunder in the process.

Meghan Markle has unexpectedly joined husband Prince Harry on a trip to New York, making bizarre blunder during a sit-down interview.

The Duke of Sussex, 37, was due to attend an event commemorating America’s Veterans Day alone, with the couple’s rep saying Meghan, 40, would stay behind in California with the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet.

It seems there was a last-minute change of plans, withe Duchess of Sussex joining him in the Big Apple where Prince Harry is scheduled to attend the Intrepid Museum’s Salute to Freedom Gala.

Meghan made an in-person appearance at The New York Times’ DealBook Online Summit where she gave her first interview since the couple’s tell-all with Oprah Winfrey in March.

The Duchess spoke about a range of topics including campaigning for paid family leave, the negative impact of the tabloid media on mental health as well as the “clickbait culture” of social media.

The Sun reported that Meghan, who wore a Remembrance poppy and an all-black outfit, spoke about having to rely on coupons as a child, working as a waitress, and lobbying Republican senators for parental leave.

Meghan seemingly attributed a line from the comic Spider-Man to her husband during the interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin.

Meghan made the blunder when Sorkin asked her about her calls to US politicians Susan Collins of Maine and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia.

Asking if she’d been “working the telephones”, Sorkin said: “You’ve made this issue, and women, a central one for you.

“I’m sure there are people in the audience who are saying, ‘I don’t understand – she has this great privilege, why is this her topic?’”

Meghan, who laughed as he asked the question, said: “You’ve mentioned privilege”.

“My husband always says, ‘With great privilege comes great responsibility’.

“But even before I had any privilege in my life, when my life and my lifestyle were very, very different, I always just stood up for what was right.”

The quote “with great power comes great responsibility” was actually made famous by Spider-Man. Though it was first coined by French writer Voltaire, most associate it with Peter Parker’s uncle Ben in the comic franchise.

In the Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire, uncle Ben told Peter Parker: “Just because you can beat him up, doesn’t mean you have to”.

“Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility.”

Meantime, Meghan revealed her mental health was in a better place now that she and Harry have stepped back from their work as senior royals.

Sorkin interrupted the chat to ask: “Are you feeling just better about everything?”

Meghan quickly laughed – before Sorkin added: “No – I’m serious.”

The royal replied: “Yes”. Sorkin added: “There was a moment when a lot of the world was asking the question”.

“Yes, I’m feeling much better about everything, thank you,” Meghan replied.

The Duchess broke down in tears earlier this year when she told Oprah she “didn’t want to be alive any more”.

And she claimed she begged the Royal Family for help – but it was Harry who saved her.

The 40-year-old, then pregnant with daughter Lilibet, told Oprah eight months ago: “I just didn’t see a solution.

“I didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
