HARRY Potter author JK Rowling has received a heartwrenching letter from the mother of a deceased cancer patient, who thanked the author for helping her daughter find comfort in dark times.

As Chrissy Hart’s little girl battled the disease and went through gruelling rounds of chemo, she listened to and read the stories about the boy wizard and his friends Hermione and Ron.

The poignant note was a thank you to Rowling, for creating a world for her daughter to immerse herself in and try and escape her battle with cancer.

She said in the letter: “You taught her that for every chemo she has to go through, there will be the opportunity to fly across a lake on a hippogriff.

“For every time her heart seizes with fear of pain, there will be me chasing it away with a Patronus charm.”

Hart, whose daughter passed away last week added. “Your words built a castle for her to move into when the prognosis got worse.”

She then went on to thank Rowling for giving her with courage as she watched her daughter die: “You made me realise that a mother’s courage might come in the form of her tears.

“I might not have the physical ability to block her from what will take her away from me, but I can be loving and gentle like Molly, stoic in my affection like Minerva, protective and loyal like Hermione, and waiting to welcome her home like Lily.”

The letter went viral when Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley posted an excerpt from the text on her Instagram account on Tuesday.

She captioned her post: “one of the most beautiful letters I’ve ever read.”

Hart’s letter was read aloud by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies actress Ellie Bamber at Letters Live, in London last week.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Jude Law and Carey Mulligan also attended the event.

She finished off her note with: “For every child that is taken too early, people will come together, huddling close in a big group, wands held high to light the dark sky with the love they felt. You built Hogwarts as a home for her to return to. And for me.”
