Glitz and glamour stage show Velvet Rewired has cancelled their final show just hours before their final performance on Sunday.
Ticket holders were alerted to a message from the show’s producer just after midday which said the performance at 5pm had been cancelled after a lead cast member was unable to perform.
“We are deeply disappointed that we couldn’t finish the season here in Hobart and thank all those who came to see the show in the few weeks we were here at the lovely Theatre Royal,” the message said.
The cast included Australian musical talent Marcia Hines and a team of aerialists, vocalists and acrobats who opened their first show at the Theatre Royal on March 22.
They previously wrapped up an eight-week season at the Sydney Opera House and performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
A Velvet Rewired spokesperson confirmed one of the lead cast members had a physical illness which led to multiple shows being cancelled.
“Velvet Rewired is full of high energy and a range of acrobatic and aerial work, which means that all cast members in the ensemble must be fully fit and ready to perform at their highest level,” they said.
“As the health of our company members comes first, we sadly made the decision to cancel shows.
“We’ve enjoyed our time in Tasmania very much and know that our audiences have loved seeing Velvet Rewired.”
The Theatre Royal will contact ticket holders to arrange a refund.
