Perth radio host breaks down as she recalls arriving at the scene of horror Indian Ocean Drive crash

An Australia radio host broke down on air, saying she needed therapy after witnessing a horrific event.

Mix94.5 Perth Breakfast Host Kymba Cahill has revealed that she was one of the first witnesses on the scene at a fatal crash over the weekend.

The crash happened when a white Honda Accord travelling north on Indian Ocean Drive in Neergabby, about 80km north of Perth, and a silver Jeep travelling south collided about 5pm on Saturday.

Two women died at the scene, and others were left injured and in need of medical assistance.

“We got some of the women out of their cars and I just tried to keep them calm and waited with them while emergency services came and obviously, they were injured,” shared the radio host on Wednesday’s show.

“There were two cars in the crash, it was a head on collision at 100 km an hour. I’m not going to explain what that looks like, but it was horrific.”

Those on the scene spread themselves among those who were injured, with Kymba helping a mother and her five-year-old son Henry at the scene.

As she opened up about the traumatic experience, the radio star began to well up with tears.

She stayed with the passengers from the silver jeep who are the survivors of the crash.

“There were two women. One of them, I know was the mother and her five-year-old son Henry, who was exceptionally brave. Henry was amazing,” she said.

“While the horror of what had happened was unfolding around us, Henry, he was just, he was being really amazing.

“I was obviously trying to distract him from what was happening because I didn’t want him to realise the trauma of what was taking place. I tried to get him to talk about his dog and his drawing and his Nan and Pop and things like that because his mum was injured.

“So, we had her on the road, on the side of the car, leaning up against the car, but she couldn’t get to her son either because she was hurt and so I was the communicator between the two of them as well.”

Kymba said she would be seeking out therapy after the harrowing ordeal, that had been replaying in her head ever since.

“Truly, it was horror. I’m not going to go into detail as I said about what I witnessed, but the images that I saw have been running through my head, like a video, like a movie – just seeing the same images rolling through since Saturday. I’m going to seek help about it obviously. I’m going to talk to someone because it is traumatic.”

She continued: “When we were there at Telethon on Sunday, I was thinking, you know, little Henry could have still been in the hospital at that time as well.

“I just wouldn’t wish it upon anybody. It was awful. And if people could see what I had to see that day, I could understand them never getting in a car again.”
