Tasmanian icon Hannah Gadsby has taken to Instagram to reveal why she has cancelled upcoming shows in Europe due to an unfortunate event in Iceland.

In a video posted to the social media platform, the comedic genius told her followers that she had broken her leg while visiting Reykjavík on her ‘Body of Work’ tour.

“I went to Iceland and discovered why it’s called... Ice-land.” she admitted.

“I fell over and I’ve broken my leg in two places, I’ve had plates and screws put in. I’m in a lot of pain.”

The accident has left Gadsby confined to a wheelchair and unable to perform at upcoming shows scheduled in Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris and Milan.

The star who rose to international fame following her much-loved Netflix stand-up show ‘Nanette’ apologised to fans who were due to see her perform this weekend.

“Just a message to apologise if you bought tickets to my shows,”

“The shows must not go on, I will not break another leg,”

“I’m okay, don’t panic. Watch your step, stay safe and I’ll update you again soon.”

The star said the shows will be rescheduled later in the year.

Gadsby’s ‘Body of Work’ world tour is expected to hit stages in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, UK, Canada and the US.
