MONA Foma has launched into its third northern edition with a 10-day program of music, art, performers and food spread across Launceston.

The festival is set to impress with a line-up of big-name local and international acts and installations sprinkled among the absurd, unusual, shocking and mesmerising.

Musicians Paul Kelly and Amander Palmer will grace the Princess Threatre stage with solo shows, while the festival hub at the Inveresk Precinct will have a full line-up of performers, including LA beatmaker Flying Lotus with his 3D performance.

The festival’s own large-scale satirical puppet and theatre production, King Ubu, are set to wow fans at the Cataract Gorge.

The festival has teamed up with local and interstate Aboriginal artists, cultural practitioners and curators to present an immersive installation celebrating palawa [Tasmanian Aboriginal] culture.

Kipli Paywuta Lumi ticket holders will emerge after a short walk through the bush in an experience of Tasmanian Aboriginal architecture, cuisine, language and storytelling.

The phrase and title of the installation is from the revived indigenous language of palawa kani and translates to ‘food to sustain us’ or ‘food across time’.

Pakana Tasmania Aboriginal community member, project curator and cultural adviser, Zoe Rimmer, said it was important for Aboriginal culture to be shared, explored and for the broader community to engage with and learn more about it.

Ms Rimmer said she could not wait to see the line hut fully installed.

“The architectural drawings and the plans look really amazing and it’s something that’s been designed so that it can be set up on site and not have an impact on the environment.
