ARIA award-winning artist Amy Shark is on her way to multiple Tasmanian cities as part of a mammoth 65-date regional tour this winter.
The indie pop star from Queensland said she was thrilled to have an extended stay in the state for three shows in August.
The 35-year-old will perform in Launceston and Devonport for the first time, playing at the Princess Theatre and Parnaple Arts Centre respectively, before bowing out with a bumper show at Hobart City Hall.
Shark’s Devonport show has already sold out, a testament to her popularity in the area.
The support of fans away from Australia’s biggest cities felt extra special, she said.
“I’ve got some awesome fans in the major cities and stuff but they’re so spoiled for choice with so many great musicians congregating in the major cities.”
“Regional towns are just so much more appreciative for some reason – the reception is just so wild.
“Any musician has a bit of a stage ego, and whenever you see people in the crowd really enjoying themselves it’s such a great feeling, and I get that a lot in Tasmania.”
Shark said she was looking forward to her downtime while touring the Apple Isle.
“It’s such a beautiful part of the world … whenever I go to New Zealand I get this lovely feeling where my whole body’s relaxed, and I get that same feeling every time I’m in Tassie,” she said.
“I wouldn’t mind hitting some wineries, but I’ve got to keep the body fit and not be a mess.”
The singer-songwriter said Hobart held a particularly special place in her heart, having been the opening venue on her first national headline Adore tour in 2017.
Shark’s See U Somewhere tour was recently expanded from 42 shows to 65 over its 14-week span, a gruelling schedule for any musician.
The looming workload “scares the hell out of me”, Shark said.
“It’s a crazy amount but I guess for 15 years I played for four hours every Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday. I think my voice is match fit and it will just be about keeping as fit and healthy as I possibly can.
“When it comes to travelling around and seeing different parts of Australia with my band and crew who are now like my best friends, I couldn’t think of anything better to do for three months of the year.”
