Hobart will have a new folk music headquarters following the launch of the Kunanyi Folk Club tonight. Award-winning Tasmanian singer/songwriter Teri Young and her Bower Band will launch the club, which will meet on the first Saturday of every month. Celebrate winter with Dark Mofo, the popular festival of food, music, film and large-scale public art which explores darkness, light, mythology and centuries-old winter solstice rituals. The festival kicks off with Dark+Dangerous Thoughts at the Odeon Theatre from June 6–9, and also incorporates annual favourites like the Winter Feast (June 14-16 and June 19-23), the ogoh-ogoh parade and burning, and the Nude Solstice Swim (June 22), as well as plenty of new offerings like Dark Path, a public art playground on Queens Doman from June 14-16. Don’t miss your final chance to see the Southern Huskies play at the Derwent Entertainment Centre for the 2019 New Zealand NBL season. The crowd favourites will take on the Canterbury Rams in what is the last of four games played at the DEC this year.
