Charlie’s Angels star Tom Green has opened up about his decision to leave Hollywood in favour of a remote Canadian farm after 20 years in the entertainment hub.
The comedian, who appeared in multiple hit movies of the 2000s and hosted The Tom Green Show, moved back to his home country of Canada in 2021.
Speaking to the New York Times recently, he admitted: “I’m not really a Hollywood guy. I started to feel like I wasn’t being true to my authentic self.”
Green, 53, now lives on a 150-acre farm in Ontario, where he owns a host of animals – a surprising new lifestyle which is shown in his new This Is The Tom Green Documentary on Prime Video.
“People are probably going to be surprised that I’m not, like, completely crazy,” Green said.
“There’s a sort of a wholesome heartwarming thing to this — that I have a close relationship with my family, that I love animals, that I enjoy doing a lot of things that a great many people in the world enjoy doing, like getting out into the woods.”
He added: “People may start to realise that there’s a lot of space. We’re all connected now electronically, so we don’t need to be all sitting on top of each other.”
Green, who was previously married to Drew Barrymore between 2001 and 2002, is now engaged to fellow Ontario native Amanda Nelson, whom he reconnected with after moving back to Canada.
He proposed in December, announcing at the time on Instagram: “Big news! Amanda and I are engaged! I am the luckiest guy in the world. I love you Amanda.”
Despite the dramatic lifestyle change, Green is still touring the U.S. with his stand-up show, as well as performing music from his new country album, Home to the Country.
This Is The Tom Green Documentary is available to stream on Prime Video.
