Meghan Markle appears to have made another swipe at the royal family after she pointedly said that she wanted people to “tell the truth” about her.
The Duchess of Sussex also shared advice from tennis superstar Serena Williams about “lies” in another apparent dig about her life in the spotlight.
Speaking to friend and fellow podcaster Emma Grede, the CEO of fashion brand Good American and a founding partner of Kim Kardashian’s Skims line for the Aspire podcast, Meghan described celebrity life as having “peaks and valleys”.
She claimed she got through the hard times with “a lot of self work” as well as de-stressing by spending time with her children, hiking and “date nights” with Harry.
In a subtle dig at royal life, Meghan spoke of time in her life where she “wasn’t as empowered with my voice”.
She said her return to Instagram “was a great way to get my voice back”.
Grede asked Meghan: ‘If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything you would do differently?”
A determined-looking Meghan replied: “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth”.
Meghan said she coped by remembering advice from her bestie Williams.
“My dear friend Serena, she told me years ago: ‘A lie can’t live forever’.”
Meghan then laughed and referred to the period when she first began her relationship with Prince Harry.
“Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”
During the podcast, Meghan Markle also hit back at haters of the infamous “twerking” video she shared of her and Prince Harry dancing in a delivery room when she was pregnant with daughter Lilibet.
The footage divided fans when it was released to mark the child's ’s fourth birthday on June 4, with critics describing it as “cringey”.
Meghan told Grede: “You have to be authentic”.
The Duchess then asked, “Did you see my ‘Baby Momma’ dance?”.
Grede told Meghan she had seen the video and even “did a little secret cheer” for her.
“Like, I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that ‘I don’t give a f–k’ kind of thing,” Grede added.
Meghan pointed out the video was recorded in 2021 when she was pregnant with Lilibet.
“That was four years ago. So it’s also a really great reminder that, with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life. A real, authentic, fun life that’s happening behind the scenes.”
She continued: “I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”
It shows Meghan dancing to the viral Baby Momma Dance song in a black wrap dress.
Harry could also be seen dancing across the screen.
“Four years ago today, this also happened,” Meghan wrote in the caption.
“Both of our children were a week past their due dates … so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do!.”
