Queen Mary, ever the style icon, has stepped out in a stunning ensemble for a formal new year’s event at Christian VII’s Palace in Amalienborg.
The Aussie-born royal, 52, stepped out alongside husband King Frederik X, 56, who donned full military regalia for the event in the Knight’s Hall.
The royal couple continued a centuries-old tradition, inviting the judges of the Danish supreme court, the royal life guards and the officers corps of the guardhouse regiment to a reception to formally thank them for their service and wish them a happy new year.
It was followed by a second reception for the diplomatic corps.
Queen Mary wowed onlookers in a full-length dove-grey gown with gold brocade, featuring long sleeves and a high collar, which she wore with classic white gloves.
The gown was styled with a soft up-do, diamond earrings and a blue sash.
The Queen previously wore the spectacular gown, designed by Teri Jon by Rickie Freeman, during an official visit to Greenland in the middle of 2024.
It’s almost been a year since the couple ascended to the throne as the King and Queen of Denmark on 14 January 2024, after the abdication of Queen Margrethe II.
King Frederik acknowledged his mother’s tremendous contribution to the country when he delivered his first New Year’s Eve speech as monarch in December.
“Tonight, we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one. Exactly as we have done year after year. But then again – something has changed,” he said (translated from Danish).
“For my mother, Queen Margrethe, for me and for you. Although we all have had a year to get used to the idea, I am aware that there may still be some who are a bit nervous on my behalf. For can the New Year Address be given by others than Queen Margrethe?”
King Frederik and Queen Mary aren’t quite done with their new year festivities; they will also meet with officers from the Defence and Emergency Management Board tomorrow.
