Prince William has admitted his wife has a “long way to go” in her cancer recovery, just one day after she released a video statement confirming she has completed her chemotherapy.
The Princess of Wales shared an emotional message featuring candid footage of herself with her family on Monday, in which she expressed her “relief” at having finished treatment and detailed how “scary” and “incredibly tough” the past nine months had been.
William opened up about the announcement during an engagement at a school the following day in Wales, telling wellwishers: “It’s good news, but there is still a long way to go.”
In the deeply personal, three-minute video – which was directed by commercial director, Will Warr, who previously worked on the Wales’ behind-the-scenes coronation clip – Kate said she was focused on doing what she can “to stay cancer-free”.
“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she admitted in a voice-over, as clips of herself, William, and their three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine and Prince Louis, six – at their home in Norfolk were shown.
“ … Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.
“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.
“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
Kate first revealed her diagnosis for an unspecified type of cancer in March following frenzied speculation about her health amid a lengthy absence from the spotlight.
In June, she provided a positive update about her treatment, and joined the royals for the Trooping the Colour parade the following day, marking her first public appearance since Christmas 2023.
Kate delighted fans by also turning up at the Wimbledon tennis tournament the following month, taking in the men’s singles final with her daughter, Charlotte.
Following the latest development, it’s been widely reported that she is now hoping to join Remembrance Day activities alongside the royal family in November and also partake in her annual Christmas concert the following month.
