Prince William and Catherine are preparing to make an emotional pilgrimage to a cathedral in Wales where the late Queen visited to mark the first anniversary of the monarch’s death.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will visit St David’s Cathedral in Wales on September 8 where they will lead tributes to the Queen, a year to the day of her passing.
Prince William is expected to pay homage to the life and legacy of his grandmother on the day but is not expected to speak at the cathedral, The Mirror reports.
He and Princess Catherine will be shown around the ancient church in St David’s, the UK’s smallest city.
Royal sources said the couple chose to be in Wales for the poignant anniversary as the Queen had a unique connection to St David’s Cathedral.
Her Majesty held a special stall among the Cathedral Chapter and took her place there during her four visits. She was also the first monarch to visit St David’s Cathedral since the Reformation.
King Charles III will pay tribute to his mother “quietly and privately” at the Balmoral estate in Scotland, where she died aged 96.
Prince William and Catherine are also thought to be visiting a coastal site attached to the company Nopla, the winners of last year’s Earthshot prize, which makes packaging from seaweed and plants, according to The Mirror.
