Prince Harry reportedly stayed at Princess Diana’s childhood home during his secret trip to the UK last week.
The Duke of Sussex, 39, was an unexpected guest last Wednesday at the funeral for his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, after previous reports suggested he wouldn’t attend.
It’s understood Harry opted to stay in a hotel during his last UK trip in May. This time, the royal was hosted by his uncle Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, at Althorp House, according to People.
Spencer, 60, who is Diana’s brother, declined to comment when approached by the outlet.
Harry’s decision to stay with his uncle also coincided with the 27th anniversary of Diana’s death on August 31.
Diana, who was 36 when she was killed in a car accident in Paris, is buried on an island at Althorp.
Lord Fellowes, who was married to Diana’s sister Lady Jane Spencer, died in July of undisclosed causes aged 82.
He was honoured at St Mary’s Church in the Norfolk village of Snettisham on August 29, in a service also attended by Prince William.
It’s been reported William and Harry didn’t speak to one another.
Attendees have claimed the estranged brothers had no communication at the memorial service, with People reporting they sat in two different groups among their maternal cousins. It marked the first time they had been in the same room since King Charles’ coronation in May last year.
Harry has repeatedly said he remains open to reconciling with his family, after relations worsened following the release of his bombshell memoir, Spare, in January 2023.
In February, after King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Harry made a brief dash to the UK to see his father.
Charles, 75, was reported to have informed Harry of his diagnosis by phone before it was announced by Buckingham Palace.
While there appears to be a slow rebuilding of Harry’s relationship with Charles, it’s understood he and William didn’t see each other during that visit, and have not spoken directly since the late Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
According to Harry’s memoir, even then, they “barely exchanged a word”.
Meanwhile, sources have told the Mail on Sunday Harry is planting seeds for a possible comeback as a working royal, and is seeking advice from people “from his old life”.
“Harry is turning away from all sorts of Hollywood publicists and is seeking counsel from his old friends and associates,” one source said.
“He is clearly reaching out thinking, ‘I need to do something different because what I’m doing is clearly not working.’ In short, he is rethinking the way he operates.”
The insider stressed that Harry, along with Meghan Markle, “are not seeking a permanent return” to the UK.
